Real Money Online Poker

Real Money Poker Games aka "Cash Games"

There's alot of real money poker taking place online these days. At first, players were skeptical to play poker online for real money but those days are long gone. Most good players keep a healthy balance between live poker and real money online poker.

First, let's look at the No Limit Texas Holdem poker cash game that's become very popular in most online poker rooms like FullTiltPoker.com.

Today, the new game everyone online seems to love is the No Limit Holdem real money cash game. The game is popping up everywhere and if you're a good single table tournament player, then this could be a good game for you, as well.

In my opinion, the online poker ring game is a great one and should be a part of your online game portfolio. Just remember the money in front of you is your own, and your risk is not as defined, as in the single and multiplayer tournaments... it's your real money.

Like investing in a technology stock, the swings can be far greater, but if you're good at extracting the maximum from your opponents, then the returns can be way above average over the long run. Here's three articles I wrote that you should reference if you want to be more successful playing online poker for real money:

  1. Thinking Implied Odds Can Impact Your Bottom Line
  2. Online Holdem Poker Can Maximize Your Efficiencies
  3. Playing Small Pairs and Overcards

If you're a well rounded Texas Holdem player then you can bring a lot of creativity to the table, often winning pots by playing the board or just outplaying the player (try and remember to make implied odds a part of your no limit repertoire)...

I play a good deal of real money no limit cash games online, mainly to compliment the single table and multiplayer tournaments I play. But when I play live this is the only game I play and have had most of my success with.

The format in a NL cash game is the same as a single or multi table holdem event. If you're playing a no limit real money cash game online, there is a maximum that you can bring to the table usually ranging from $5 to $500, depending on where you play.

Most real casinos are now offering this No Limit format, where there is a minimum buy-in and you can bet as much as you put in front of you. That my friend can be a very scary game as I have seen and been involved in hugepots that can go into the several thousands of dollars.

Most other real money poker games come as a defined limit hold'em game. (Rarely can you play a single table shootout live unless you're trying to qualify for a larger multiplayer event.)

The limit Texas Hold'em cash games range from 5?- 10? limit up to $100-$200 limit at most online sites. It's a different game then No Limit most of the time because you are limited to what you can bet. For instance, in a $10-$20 game, the most you can bet pre flop is 10 dollars, the most you can raise anybody is 10 dollars. You are limited to one bet and three raises for each betting round (after the flop the minimum bet goes up to $20).

For this reason, Texas Holdem limit poker cash games become more of a mathematical game. You often find yourself trying to figure out the pot odds, simply put, whether or not it is worth calling a bet or series of calls based on the chips in the pot.

In most real money poker limit games the field is usually thinned down to two or three players, when it gets to the river or (last card) and (if you're a no limit player:) then someone seems to always outdraw you.

The reason it's hard to get rid of people in a holdem limit game is because you can't distort the pot odds by controlling the size of your bet, as in a no limit real money game.

At the same time, you can't lose all the money in front of you in one hand. By betting $20 dollars on the turn or river you are giving your opponents the right price to try and outdraw you if the pot is big enough. That's why some prefer to play no limit Texas Holdem real money poker cash games... because if somebody wants to chase a hand... you can really make them pay to do it.

On the flip side, if you know the odds cold and know your opponents then you can use this to your advantage...

I know many players that only play real money online limit holdem cash games and do very well without having the stress of someone putting you All In every third hand. Limit cash games are more science then art and depending on what kind of player (and person) you are, maybe it works for you too.

Like I've said before, Texas Holdem is a situational game, figure out what size and style of game works for you based on your personality, then work at your game and go get'em...
