So you are interested in knowing more about what an advanced jigsaw puzzle is all about. Then let me first tell you my definition of an advanced jigsaw puzzle. An advanced puzzle is really an extra special treat, because it utilizes many premium puzzle cutting features and techniques. A traditional straight edge puzzle of 200 pieces can take from 2 to 4 hours to assemble by most people, however, the same puzzle with all or most of the features below can double, and in some cases even triple the solving time! Puzzles cut this intricately are a rare find, and are highly sought out by serious wooden puzzle collectors. Advanced Puzzle features include:

in Katonah, New York. I am honored to have been asked by Anne D. Williams, and the Museum of Art in Katonah, NY, to submit an entry of my contemporary puzzle cutting talents to the museum exhibit which displayed some amazing jigsaw puzzles dating all the way back to the 1760's. Click Here to enlarge this picture. The jigsaw puzzle shown to the left is titled "The Perfect Image". The original print that I used for this puzzle showed this little girl standing in a scarlet red Victorian decorated room. I selected to cut away everything pictured with the exception of the girl holding her flowers, and the ornate design of the period mirror that she is gazing into. Notice the Mirror's elaborate edge design. Every loop and swirl was cut around in order to drop out the room background. If you count them, you will see that there are 42 drop outs (holes so to speak) in this puzzle. This feature makes solving such a puzzle increasingly difficult. Sculpting out the edges of this puzzle alone, took the better part of two and a half hours. The piece count of this puzzle is approximately
425 pieces.

The "Hummingbird in Rose Bush" puzzle shown to the right has 155 pieces. Most puzzle solvers would be able to solve a square or rectangular puzzle of this size in 1-1/2 to 3 hours. This humming bird puzzle took two very regular puzzle solvers that I loaned it to, 6-1/2 hours and 10 hours to solve. The BLACK background is NOT part of this advanced cut puzzle!
